Acwa Power is the largest private company in water desalination. SWRO uses significantly less power than other forms of desalination, which reduces our carbon footprint.

How are the technologies and the company helping achieve sustainability goals?
Acwa Power is a first mover into green hydrogen and is developing the world’s largest green hydrogen plant in NEOM, Saudi Arabia, that will be capable of producing 600 tonnes of green hydrogen per day. The plant utilises 4GW of solar and wind power in order to create carbon-free hydrogen and ammonia. We are also developing the world’s largest off-grid renewable energy system at The Red Sea Project, which will include solar, wind a battery storage system to make sure that the tourism megaproject runs on fully sustainable energy even after sunset. 46 percent of our total portfolio in operation, under construction and in advanced development runs on renewable energy, and we are well on the way to meeting our 2030 target of a 50 percent share of renewables.

How important is the event for the company?
GWECCC is a significant event for Acwa Power as we are principal partner, with 10 speakers as well as the Acwa Power booth. On a fundamental level, the event’s goals to highlight sustainable water solutions align with our goals as a company and national champion to support the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
