Bahrain's Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning said work has begun on the installation of an additional left diversion from Riffa Avenue to Muharraq Avenue as part of its urgent improvement works package designed to alleviate traffic in vital areas.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Traffic, reported BNA.

The works are in line with directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to develop urgent solutions to ease traffic flow across the kingdom, it stated.

The Ministry of Works confirmed that the project includes two left diversions and a separating lane for vehicles heading left towards Muharraq Avenue and east on Riffa Avenue, as well as improvements to road lighting. The project includes new traffic signals and road painting to ensure security and safety on the road.

Once the project gets completed, it will help alleviate traffic on Riffa Avenue by 45 per cent and increase the road’s capacity by 12 per cent, said the BNA report.

Also it will ease the traffic bottlenecks on Riffa Avenue leading to Muharraq Avenue, especially during peak times, and will benefit residents across the Southern Governorate, it added.
