6,000 join Covid-19 vaccine trial in Bahrain

A total of 6,000 people hailing from different nationalities have volunteered for the phase III Covid-19 vaccine clinical trials in Bahrain.
The Ministry of Health announced that the target has been reached six weeks after the phase III Covid-19 vaccine clinical trials got underway in Bahrain, said a Wam news agency report.
Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al-Saleh said that the efforts of Team Bahrain, led by HRH the Crown Prince, represented a major catalyst for strenuous and dedicated work to protect people’s health and safety.
She said that the achievement reflects the awareness of people in Bahrain as well as their keenness to participate in the trial for the sake of the homeland and humanity at large.
“Bahrain’s success in completing the third phase of clinical trials of the inactivated vaccine for the Coronavirus, by reaching the required number of volunteers of 6,000 volunteers in 6 weeks, is a source of pride”, she said.
She praised the medical teams in charge of conducting the trials, who have expressed their desire to conduct an additional 1,700 trials.
She said that the vaccine is safe and the associated symptoms, if any, are among the recognised ones.
Meanwhile, Supreme Council for Health (SCH) President and Head of the National Taskforce for Combating Covid-19, Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa said the success in reaching the target of 6,000 volunteers represents a source of pride for the nation.
He praised HRH the Crown Prince’s participation in the clinical trials which was a major catalyst for more candidates to volunteer for the sake of the whole humanity.
He lauded the large turn-out of officials, citizens and expatriates who volunteered to take part in the clinical trials under the supervision of the National Taskforce for Combating Covid-19.
