UN unit marks World Environment Day in Bahrain

The United Nations Environment, West Asia Region is celebrating the World Environment Day on June 5 under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” in cooperation with retail pioneer Majid Al Futtaim Group in City Center Bahrain mall.

The programme will include a variety of recreational activities with focused on this year topic “Plastic Pollution” targeting kids and young children to increase the awareness of the damage caused by plastics in our environment.

It is reported that many of plastic waste ending up in the seas and ocean to the deepest part there, more than 1,000 km far from the mainland, negatively affecting and threatens marine life for thousands of years, as research indicates that over 700 species, including endangered species had been affected already by plastic pollution.

Events will be comprising different competitions and activities like face painting, wildlife awareness contests, spins and global game of #BeatPlasticPollution tag launched by UN Environment to showcase positive behaviour change around how we consume plastic, in addition to distributing gifts given by UN Environment and Majid Al Futtaim Group. – TradeArabia News Service
