Bahrain's Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Ministry has installed 1,518 traffic signs in various governorates of the kingdom during the first half of this year.

This included 575 warning and regulatory signs, 113 guiding signs, replacement of 360 damaged signs with new ones, cleaning of 300 signs and changing 170 signs indicating speed limits, said Engineer Kadhim Abdul Latif, roads planning and design director.

Engineer Latif said the ministry received a total of 32 requests and complaints from municipal councils and also from citizens, which the ministry looked into in coordination with the Traffic General Directorate.

The ministry, in coordination with the Traffic General Directorate, issued 1,415 traffic diversion licenses for road works, sewerage works, electricity and water works, in addition to other services.

All traffic diversion licenses are dealt with electronically via the eGovernment portal www.bahrain.bh. A license is only issued following inspection of traffic diversion maps and checking the work programme with the project consultant and a representative from the Traffic General Directorate in order to ensure compliance with traffic safety requirements and availability of traffic signs, rubber barriers and sufficient lighting in work locations, a ministry statement said. - TradeArabia News Service
